Rental Terms

Driver’s Age 

Minimum age limit is 21

The drivers must be a minimum of 21 years of age for car categories A , B
23 for C , D  and 25 for the rest categories.

Maximum age limit is 75
• Please note that we do not check the age of the driver when we receive a booking. If you do not meet the age requirements at the rental counter, you will not be able to pick up the car and you will be asked to pay for the full amount of the rental fee.
• There is not any young or senior driver fee.
• The maximum rental age is 75 years.

Driver’s License

When picking the car up, the main driver and any additional drivers will need to provide a full driving license in their name.All drivers must have held their driving license for at least 12 months.

• Domestic Renters:Greek citizens need a valid driving license issued in Greece.
• EU Renters:If you are from the EU and picking up in the EU, you only need your country’s driving license, except if your driving license is not in Latin script. If it is not in Latin script then you need an International Driver’s License as well as your country’s driving license.
• For customers of the following countries, the country’s driving license is also accepted if it is written in Latin script:

Traffic Violations, Traffic fines and Administrative Sanctions

The renter of the vehicle is solely responsible for any traffic offenses, and appended administrative sanctions resulting from any violation of the Greek Traffic law, fines, and related administration fees incurred during their rental period. Renter must inform us at +306995354240 when receiving a ticket.

Fuel Policy

SAME TO SAME: you should return the vehicle with fuel as much as when you received it. If the fuel is less you will have to pay the difference and you will be charged a refueling fee.

Excessive fuel amount is non refundable.

Mileage

Unlimited mileage is included in our rates.

Taxes

All Taxes and V.A.T (Value Added Tax) 24% are included in our rates

Additional Drivers

Maximum number of drivers per contract is 2 and the extra cost is 3€ per day for the extra driver.

Roadside Assistance

Roadside Assistance is free of charge and available 24/7.
It is recommended to contact our office directly in the event of required roadside assistance.

Selection of particular car brand or model

Bookings are subject to a specific car group, which usually includes several different car models with similar features. You can ask for a specific model after your booking is confirmed. We will add your model preference to your booking and we will deliver the requested model if it is available the day of your arrival. Please note that you must be prepared to collect any of the advertised vehicles within a category. In case you have a confirmed reservation for a specific car group and there is not any available car from this category, we reserve the right to deliver a vehicle of bigger category with no extra charge.

Car Replacement

In case of the unfortunate event of an accident/breakdown resulting in the immobilisation of the vehicle, your car will be replaced with another one within 24 hours from the time the accident/breakdown has been reported. Our company has the right to investigate the causes of the accident/breakdown and deny the replacement of the car if the use of the car was against terms & conditions.

Infant Seat, Baby Seat and Booster Seat

Child seats/Infant/baby and boosters seats are installed by the renter and driver of the vehicle at his own risk, during the vehicle pick-up process.

We offer 3 different types of child seats (Infant seat, Baby seat, Booster seat). Each costs 3€/day, payable on arrival.

No additional charges on flight delays

We keep track of your flight and stay informed for your arrival time, as well as last minute flight schedule changes that might occur. We will wait for your arrival flight in order to deliver you the booked vehicle.

Modern and safe vehicles

We are able to guarantee that you will be delivered a safe, well maintained and well serviced vehicle.

Cleaning, service, engine check and prompt attention

Our team and professionals have checked the vehicle to be delivered in perfect condition.

Road Map, GPS Sat Nav

Upon delivery, you will get a recent map of Crete island free of charge. We can offer you a GPS Sat nav device with the most recent map of Greece, with latin character map, available in 17 languages. The cost is €5 per day. Advanced booking is required and minimum cost per rental is €30. The customer is liable for misplacing or damaging the GPS unit/mount to a maximum charge of €100.

Vehicle Key Loss

The customer is liable for all costs to replace keys which have been lost or damaged, the cost of retrieval of keys which have been locked inside a vehicle.

You can cancel your reservation by contacting our e-mail address.

Ferrying the vehicle & Across the border rentals

Ferrying the car to and from any island or mainland is not allowed. All insurances will be voided and the renter will be responsible for any damage caused if the vehicle is driven elsewhere than Crete Island.

Extension of the rental period:

If you want to extend the rental period , you must notify us in writing at least 24 hours before the start of the rental period. We must answer with written approval otherwise there is no extension.

If you have already picked up your vehicle and wish to keep it longer, you must contact our company at +306995354240  and check if the car is available. We have the right to deny the extension of the rental if the car is already booked.

Grace Period

Grace Period of one (1) hour (i.e first hour delay in return is not charged) provided that our company is notified and has given permission. Next 3 hours are charged at €10 per hour. Over 3 hours delay, one day rate will be charged. Please note that a customer is not allowed to bring the car later than the agreed return time without having taken permission (having extended the rental) from our company since there is not any insurance coverage after the return time of the car.

Accident

In case of an accident, the renter must contact our company immediately via our 24/7 helpline in order to receive instructions on how to handle the situation. You are not allowed to leave the incident place without reporting the accident. If you cannot contact our company, you should contact directly the police. If the renter fails to provide the report to our company then he is obliged to pay for repairing costs of any damage caused to the rental vehicle. If the driver or one of the passengers is injured you should also inform police/ambulance. If by any chance the other involved party leaves the accident place, take a photo or write down the plate number. We will also call our insurance partner for an accident report. It is prohibited to drive under alcohol influence and disobey traffic rules.

Use of Vehicle

All insurance coverings & waivers are valid provided that the renter has complied with all terms & conditions. The renter is obliged to inspect the vehicle and report any damage to our office or police, as soon as possible without moving the car, in order to provide all information and photos necessary for the submission of the incident’s full description. If the renter fails to report the damage within two (2) hours, then he admits responsibility and is obliged to compensate the company for repairing costs. No accident/damage report is accepted on the return of the car without prior notification. The company is entitled to claim compensation from the renter up to the repairing cost of the damage as below: For damages caused when the vehicle is operated on any unauthorised road, non-asphalt road, dirt road or off-road (eg. Balos), either intentionally or unintentionally (rented vehicle ran off the road). For damages caused when the renter violates traffic rules (eg. road/STOP signs, speed limits, road direction, U-turns, illegal overpassing, double line overpassing). For damages caused when the renter is distracted, misjudges his course and goes out of the road. For damages caused when the renter violates parking rules. For damages caused when the vehicle is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest or the vehicle is used for the purpose of reward (taxi or courier service). For damages caused when the vehicle is driven by any person disqualified from holding or has never held a driver’s licence appropriate for that vehicle or is not a registered driver in the rental agreement. For damages caused when the driver of the vehicle is under alcohol or drug influence that affects his ability to drive the vehicle. For damages caused when the vehicle is wilfully or recklessly used by the renter (eg damages caused to doors/body of the car by the wind, damages to clutch/gearbox, damages to the vehicle interior, damages caused by animals, damages caused by sitting/standing on the bonnet/boot/roof of the vehicle).

Delivery and Collection:

The renter received a car that he examined and found to his complete satisfaction, in a condition acceptable and appropriate for the purpose he rents it. You must return the car and all documents, tools, accessories, and equipment provided by us, in the same condition you received it, at the location and on the date and time designated on the front side of this page. We reserve the right to gain repossession and use of the vehicle at any time without notice and without Renter’s consent, but at Renter’s expense, from wherever and by any means, if:

1. a) at our discretion there is a danger of damage or loss of car as well as the risk of not receiving the rental charge or any other due compensation,
2. b) it has been used in violation of this agreement
3. c) it has been used in violation of Greek laws.

Late Return:

If you don’t return the car by the designated return time, you have to pay a full day’s rental charge. If your delay causes the next client to postpone or lose his rental reservation, you will be charged for compensation equal to that client’s lost rental. After the expiration of the rental period, you have both civil and penal liability for the illegal use and possession of the car.

In case the vehicle is returned earlier there is no refund or any kind of reimbursement.

Damages:

Any damage or loss, incurred in the following circumstances is not covered in “excess” and has to be paid in full by You, regardless of any insurance: (a) when driving in violation of the Greek Driving code or in violation of Greek laws (b) when driving in violation of the terms of this contract, (c) when driving off-road (see also paragraph 6. h for additional charges related to off-roading) (d) when driving outside the borders of Crete (e) during loading, unloading, or transport of car by ships or train or other means of transport, (f) damage to, or loss of, equipment and accessories provided by us, (g) damage to the lower part of the car (engine’s oil pan, exhaust under pipes, engine protection plates, etc.), (h) damage to the tires and wheels including tire punctures. Where damage occurs to the car, or mechanical difficulty arises, you will immediately be notified. If damage is caused by the misuse or abuse of the vehicle, you will remain responsible (a) for the rental charge for the remainder of the unexpired rental period and (b) for costs incurred by the cancellation or postponement of the hire of the vehicle to future customers as a result of its unavailability. Where a vehicle has crashed or has a mechanical failure and is not able to be driven any further, the Company is under no obligation to replace or supply another vehicle and no compensation can be claimed by the Renter for the unused portion of the rental period. If Bluecarrental is able to provide a replacement vehicle, this procedure may bear additional costs for the Renter, which (the costs) are dependent on distance and methods of delivery. The Renter will be notified about the costs and the delivery of the replacement vehicle will take place only with his written acceptance (via SMS or email or other messaging application) of these additional costs.

Additional charges:

In addition to the charges set out in sections 2, 4, and 5, you must pay the company at the end of the rental period, unless otherwise agreed, the following amounts: Refueling charges if the vehicle is not returned with the tank of fuel rented. Any fines, penalties, penalties, court costs, and other costs imposed or to be imposed on the company due to the unlawful use of the vehicle by the Renter. The Renter or the additional driver named on the front of this contract will continue to be responsible for any illegal acts. Charges for the transportation of the vehicle in the event of returning the vehicle to a location other than that indicated on the front side of this agreement without the written consent of the Company. All charges are subject to a final audit.

Use of vehicle and responsibilities of Renter:

The vehicle is to be operated only by the renter or any additional renter who is authorized by Automin SA and written on the rental agreement as an additional driver. Drivers must provide their valid driving licenses and IDs. You are expected to take good care of the vehicle, preserve it in good condition, etc., and in general to behave in a prudent matter.

Pets/animals are not allowed in vehicles without specifically protected boxes like those used in airplanes. Any damage from pets/animals inside the car must be paid; Costs depend on the damage made. The Renter is obliged to pay any cleaning costs up to 100 euros.

The Company operates a strict non-smoking policy in all vehicles. The Company will enforce a special cleaning charge to the renter if a returned vehicle requires special treatment to remove any evidence of smoking

Any repair of the vehicle by You or any other person is prohibited without the company’s prior written consent.  The vehicle must not exit Crete nor be loaded on a ship or any other means of transportation without the company’s prior written consent. Vehicles must not be used: (a) to carry property or persons for hire, (b) to propel or to tow any other vehicle, trailer, or other objects, (c) to participate in or to follow rallies, races, or competitions of any kind, (d) for subleasing by Renter to any third party, (e) for purposes contrary to Greek Law, (f) while Renter or the additional vehicle driver is under the influence of alcohol, hallucinatory drugs, narcotics, barbiturates, or any other substance impairing consciousness or ability to react, (g) in contravention of any customs, traffic or other regulations, (h) by any third person other than the Renter and additional driver mentioned in the front side of this agreement, (i) to make illegal transports or to perform illegal acts. You agree (a) not to attempt to sell, dispose of, or encumber the vehicle in any way, and (b) not to alter the vehicle, including any identifying markings, without Company’s prior written consent. You are solely responsible for the ignition keys during the rental period. Should they be lost or stolen You are responsible for the replacement to a maximum cost of 400 euros. Additionally, you are liable for any express post services to send spare keys to you. In the event that the driver is unable to deliver the vehicle to the agreed location, regardless of the reason, we reserve the right to charge you the cost of the relocation of the vehicle. This cost will vary depending on where the vehicle has been left.

Prohibition of Off-road Use:

Driving a car on a non-asphalt road is considered a violation of our rental terms. Any costs or damages that occurred in these places are charged to the customer; Transportation costs, parts, and labor costs. We also have the right to take the car from you without any compensation or return of the rental amount.

Indemnity:

You expressly agree that the company is not responsible for any loss or damage suffered by You or third parties, during the rental period and no claim can be raised against the company for the above reason.

The Company nor any of its personnel, cannot be held liable, individually or collectively, in any way for any occurrence in connection with the operation of this rental agreement that might result in injury, death, or damage to the Renter, his property, or his family heirs or assigns.

Accidents:

In case of an accident or any other incident (fire, theft, etc.), You are obliged to immediately do the following:

(a) not acknowledge liability or guilt and claims of third parties in any way, direct or indirect. Note the names and addresses of eyewitnesses and also the name and the address of the driver and the data of the vehicle, with which may have collided. (c) Notify the police to investigate the liability of the third party and provide care to any injuries. (d) Contact the company immediately by phone or other means and act in accordance with instructions given by the Company. (e) Obtain all relevant information from any third party. (f) Photograph the location of the accident, and the vehicles participating in the accident, if possible. The renter must complete and sign an accident report within 24 hours and send any relevant documents or information to the company. (g) You agree to provide all assistance reasonably required by the Company in relation to the accident, including the provision of statements, information, and documents, and will attend court to give evidence and meet with Company’s lawyers as required in relation to any legal action arising in connection with the rental of the vehicle.

Damages to the interior of the car (upholstery, dashboard, seats, r/cd., car key loss) as good mirrors, wheel covers, and antennas are not covered by the insurance unless they were caused in an accident. Tires and glasses are covered only in case the renter has accepted the Tires/Glasses Insurance

Miscellaneous:

(a) Vehicle is always the property of the owner. This is an agreement of rental only. The renter is not the company’s agent in any way and in any case. The renter acknowledges that he acquires no rights other than those stated in this agreement. (b) During the rental, all additional drivers are jointly and severally liable to the Renter.(c) Likewise, in case this agreement is signed by any representative of the Renter, he would be jointly and severally responsible with the Renter. (d) This agreement supersedes any other prior written or verbal agreement between the company and Renter. (e) the company cannot waive any of its rights deriving from the law and this agreement. (f) Any alteration of the terms of this agreement is not valid if not agreed upon in writing. (g) Renter agrees and accepts that all abovementioned terms are valid both in case of the initial agreement with the company and in any case of extension of the time of the rental and/or replacement of the Motorcycle by another. (h) In case there is a difference between the copies and the original of this agreement, the original possessed by the company always supersedes. (I) The contracting parties acknowledge and accept that all terms of this agreement are substantial and fundamental for the purpose thereof. (j) If you have violated the terms of this contract or if you have been riding the same in an illegal manner or in violation of the Greek driving code, you then have the obligation to compensate the Company for all losses and damages suffered by the Company.

Jurisdiction:

This agreement is governed by Greek Legislation and any and all disputes which may arise between the company and the renter from this agreement will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Heraklion, Crete, Greece.
